TILIBO is the name of the collaboration between Bergen-based guitarist and string master Ole Andre Farstad and Oslo-based kora player Ibou Cissokho.
In April 2024, they released their debut album Woo La Ba, where they carry forward the legacy of greats like Toumani Diabaté and Ali Farka Touré with a playful and expressive kora-guitar dialogue.
From ancient songs to blues, jazz, and modern styles – Woo La Ba represents an explosive new collaboration that will be exciting to follow in the years to come.
On stage with Sidiki Camara
For the album launch concerts, TILIBO is joined by the outstanding percussionist Sidiki Camara. Camara has collaborated with some of Africa’s most prominent musicians, including Mamady Kéita, Kasse Mady Diabaté, Rokia Traoré, and Boubacar Traoré.
He has also toured with Bill Frisell’s New Quartet and performed on the Grammy-nominated album The Intercontinentals.
In 2024, Camara won the Spellemann Award (Norwegian Grammy) in the Traditional Music category for his album Return to the Traditions.
Ibou Cissokho – kora player with roots in Senegal
Ibou Cissokho plays the kora – a West African string instrument with 21 strings – with virtuosic skill. He grew up in a large family of musicians and storytellers in Senegal and learned to play from his father, the renowned musician Solo Cissokho.
Ibou is a highly active musician on the Oslo music scene. He tours with Karpe on their Diaspora tour and performs with well-known artists such as Bugge Wesseltoft.
Ole Andre Farstad – a globetrotting musician
Ole Andre Farstad is from Harøya in Ålesund municipality and has spent the past 20 years studying and playing string instruments across several continents.
He is involved in many musical projects – from world tours with the metal band Abbath, to world music with the bands Meelodi, Tres Musicos, and Miss Tati Angola Søtti.
He has also collaborated with many griot musicians from West Africa and released the solo album Streng på Streng in 2022, where he plays 16 different string instruments.
