24.5 – 24.8 2025
Kenneth Varpe’s paintings are detailed close-up studies of small, brightly colored spots of oil paint. The spots are deceptively lifelike – an illusion of reality.
In recent years, Varpe has worked with paintings where paint is both the material he uses and the motif he depicts.
The artistic project revolves around finding a meaningful way to work with painting, where formal interests are combined with concepts such as representation and depiction.
The works, with their different color combinations and variations of strokes, are often responses to specific situations.
These can be, for example, personally experienced landscapes and places or specific motifs from the history of the painting.
Varpe (b.1978, Klepp) holds an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art & Design, and a BA(Hons) in Fine Art Painting from Grays School of Art & Design.
Varpe has a solo exhibition at LNM in 2025, and recent exhibitions include the school exhibitions Det som viser seg at Haugesund Art Association 2023, Fluid Pose at Bryne Art Association 2020, and the group exhibitions Høstutstillingen 2022, Fra Balkongen Stavanger Art Museum, 2020 and Vestlandsutstillingen 2019.
